Thank you Baby Dove for sponsoring this post.
If I'm being honest, Savannah has never been an amazing sleeper. When other mothers started boasting about their babies sleeping 10 to 13 hours a night I was jealous. I wondered how could that possibly be a thing when Savannah was only partially sleeping through the night.
Most times the best we could get was 5 or 6 hours but even that included multiple wake ups. It almost felt like we were still on her breastfeeding schedule even though we had not breastfed in months.
We were tired and at a loss. So when the conversation about moving Savannah into her own room came up I knew if we didn't find something to make the nights go smoother, that was going to be a disaster.
When I started looking for answers on how to get your baby to sleep through the night is when I found out about bedtime routines and the importance of a nighttime bath.
If there's one thing I wish folks would have been more REAL about when I was pregnant, it would have to be the healing process after birth.
I mean of course you got the "oh it will take 6 weeks to get back to normal". Heads up, that's a lie...for most women it takes way longer than 6 weeks to get back to normal and THATS NORMAL. I'll also be the first to tell you it takes even longer than that to feel like yourself. Im currently 9 months postpartum and Im just starting to feel like "me" again.
But what I'm really talking about is how to actually heal in those first few weeks after birth, what products you really need and how to make the healing process go as smooth and as quickly as possible.
Cuz nobody wants to be out here wasting their time or money on crapy products that do nothing for us and don't help us heal...
After a break up, trying to get back in the "swing of things" can be an awkward situation to say the least.
While some can "bounce to the next dick" with no issue. Others finding it difficult to move on could be left asking...

I will never be one of those bloggers...hell one of those women that will ever try and act like motherhood is easy.
Being a first time mother undoubtably is the hardest job I ever have and probably ever will take on. While it does get better as the weeks and months roll on, those first 2 months (8 weeks) are stressful enough to break even the strongest super woman in us all.
So having experienced everything from an emergency "induced" labor, to a hospitalization just days after being sent home with my baby to breastfeeding complications, postpartum anxiety and more.
I feel like I've survived my fair share of new mom woes and im just qualified enough to let you know the best ways to push through the first few tumultuous weeks to and get to the other side.
There is nothing more heartbreaking than seeing your little one in pain. It's even more difficult to deal with when it's internal pain that you can't cuddle or kiss away.
That's gas pains in a nutshell.
Your poor little's tummy get all bubbly after eating then the next thing you know you have a squirming, inconsolable, crying baby.
BUT...it doesn't have to be that way.
Although our little's have very young digestive systems that easily get overwhelmed, it is possible to avoid that or alleviate their tummy pains once they arise.
Below you will find all the tips and tricks you need to get your littles gas moving!
A few of days ago while getting drinks with girlfriends the topic of waxing came up. What I thought would be a routine conversation where we all shared our experiences, bitched about the bad ones and laughed into the next topic quickly turned into a slight debate.
Half the girls were pro waxing and the other half heavily against it because of "pain".
I was shocked to find that there were still women who have never gotten a wax just because they're scared of the "pain".
No judgment of course...I just believe all women should treat themselves (and their men) to the wonderfulness that is a smooth kitty.
So because I care about you, im going to let you in on all the reasons why you should no longer live and die by the razor and some tips for first time waxers...because after this post i'm sure you'll be on team #smoothkitty
Ever since I saw the screening of Disneys The Lion King last week y'all have been beating down the door of my Instagram DM's like its free before 11 at the club looking for the tea (*sips*)
Talking about "Deanna when are you going to put the review up on the blog?"
I have to admit part of the reason I waited this long was because as someone who grew up on The Lion King I really needed to think over not only what I was going to say in this review but also how I was going to say it. But after much deliberation and sorting of my feelings (us millennials are sensitive about our ish!) I've finally got it together.
So, here we go.
*Sigh*
It's taken me five months to write this and honestly if it wasn't Mother's Day, i'm not sure I would be writing it now.
But when I started reflecting on being a mom and what that means to me, the first thing I thought about was the day I became one and how it was nothing I ever imagined it would be. How scared I was and how in the days after I wasn't even sure I would make it home to be with my daughter...let alone make it to my first Mother's Day.
I'm writing this for moms-to-be so you always remember to advocate for yourselves throughout your pregnancy and birth and for moms who have gone through this, to know you are not alone.
So, here we go...my birth story.
IT'S T-MINUS 4 DAYS UNTIL MY FIRST MOTHER'S DAY!
*Insert scream here*
I'm still stuck in some level of denial about it all, like my baby is 5 months. I have been a mother for FIVE MONTHS and the one holiday i've looked forward to celebrating myself for more than half my life is right around the corner.
Chile and I still not prepared >_<
I'm sure you're like "Deanna, how are you not prepared? It's your day." Girl yes but I still have a mom, still have women to get gifts for. And I am the queen of last minute shopping and this holiday is no different.
So assuming you are like me i've compiled a list of Last minute Mother's day gift ideas to get you through the holiday, but wont leave you looking cheap and thoughtless.
It's hard to believe right?
That there are points where a mother could actually "hate" being a mom. I put hate in quotes only because I don't really ever hate being a mom, I love my kid. But there are very many points where I STRONGLY DISLIKE having the responsibility of being a mother.
However if we let movies and the media (social or otherwise) tell it disliking mommyhood NEVER happens! All moms are perfectly well adjusted, happily living your ideal momming goals day in and day out. Hair perfect, outfit perfect, child perfect.
And if your shit ain't perfect like that image or you dislike anything about being a mom. Well, you're just not doing it right and maybe you're a bad mom *insert mom shaming and guilt here*. But none of that is true, if you have moments of distress, depression or moments where you question "how is this my kid" or even "hate" being a mom.
YOU ARE NORMAL!
And in the name of transparency i'm here to share my top 5 times when I "hate" being a mom.
As a first time mom when I was just months away from the arrival of my little bundle of joy. One of the most daunting tasks I encountered was trying to figure out what products I should ACTUALLY purchase for my newborn.
Savannahs general feelings about my lack of baby knowledge |
Knowing nothing about babies, aside from the fact that they eat, sleep and poop like there's no tomorrow. I had no clue what Savannah would REALLY need on a daily basis and most websites (no shade) basically suggested every random bougie hot ticket item under the sun instead of tried and true products.
So I set out to get the REAL scoop on what the must have baby products are for new moms, by asking who?
My REAL MOM friends that have been down this road before and they did not disappoint. They helped me pull together a list of the 20 must have baby products for new moms and now i'm bringing that list to you!
Check it out below!
This should def help with your registry.
